Challenge

Two Purchasing Models, One Platform, No Compromises

How do you serve two entirely different purchasing models on one platform, without creating confusion for either the end customer or the distributor? The Dr Rath brand was operating within a technological environment that could not keep pace with its business model.

  • Separation of experiences: Individual customers (B2C) and trade partners (B2B) were funnelled into the same purchasing space – with no personalisation of pricing, terms, or purchasing journeys.
  • Scaling the B2B channel: No tools were available for managing wholesale accounts, individual limits, or dedicated offers for distributors.
  • Building trust in the health segment: A sensitive product category demands particular care in presenting formulations, certifications, and educational content – the previous platform offered none of this flexibility.
  • Intuitive UI/UX: The lack of a clear category hierarchy, poor presentation of product variants, and a chaotic layout of product pages meant the interface pushed users away from conversion rather than guiding them towards it.

Solution

Dual Commerce on a Single Shopify Ecosystem

We designed a single Shopify ecosystem with a clear division into two dedicated journeys – B2C for individual customers, and B2B for partners and distributors. Each journey has its own pricing structures, purchasing terms, and user experience, while operating on the same unified technical infrastructure.

  • Trust-Oriented UX: In the dietary supplements category, trust is the currency of conversion. We designed an interface that clearly showcases Dr Rath's formulations, certifications, and scientific values – presenting them in a way that speaks equally to the informed B2C consumer and the demanding B2B partner.
  • Enterprise-Grade B2B Panel: We implemented dedicated functionality for wholesale clients: individual accounts with assigned pricing tiers, large-volume order management, and a streamlined reordering journey – reducing order handling time for both the client and the operator.
  • Shopify Ecosystem as a Scalability Foundation: We integrated the store with key external systems, building a future-ready infrastructure capable of supporting further growth – across new geographic markets as well as additional sales channels.
