What changes after moving to Shopify

A different way of running the store

The decision to migrate usually comes down to changing business needs: a growing catalog, plans to expand into new markets, or wanting to simplify how the team manages the store day to day. Magento and Shopify split infrastructure responsibility differently: on Magento, hosting, updates, and security typically sit with your team or agency; on Shopify, they're part of the platform.

For many businesses, that shift in model is the biggest part of the change:

Maintenance handled by the platform

Hosting, security, and updates are managed by Shopify.

Faster launch

Ready-made infrastructure means weeks instead of months.

Performance built in

Fast page loads and stability even during peak-season traffic.

PCI DSS compliance included

Payment security compliance is built into the platform.

A predictable, stable monthly cost

No surprise infrastructure bills as your store grows.

How the migration actually works

A clear process,
no surprises

Every migration runs in six steps - from the data audit to close monitoring right after launch.

01

Store and data audit

We map out exactly what needs to move: product catalog, customers, order history, integrations (payments, couriers, PIM/ERP), and every indexed URL.

02

Data mapping and migration

We transfer products, variants, customers, and orders.

03

Store configuration

Shipping, tax, payments (including local payment gateways), checkout, team permissions, domain, and DNS.

04

Redirect mapping

Every old URL gets mapped to its new Shopify equivalent, so customers and Google land where they should.

05

Testing

Test orders, payments, shipping - everything gets checked before a single real customer sees the new store.

06

Launch and post-migration monitoring

For the first two weeks after launch, we watch traffic, indexing, and error rates closely, so any issue gets caught before customers notice it.

What about your Google rankings?

What about your Google rankings?

It's the question we hear most, and for good reason. Magento and Shopify build URLs differently: /catalog/category/product.html versus /products/product-handle, so without proper mapping, some of your indexed links would break overnight. That's why every migration we run ends with a full 301 redirect plan, migrated metadata, and an updated sitemap submitted to Google Search Console.

A migration doesn't have to cost you Google traffic, as long as someone plans for it before it happens.

FAQ

Frequently asked
questions

How long does a Magento to Shopify migration take?

Usually a few weeks to a few months, depending mostly on catalog size and the number of integrations. Stores with a heavier PIM, ERP, or marketplace setup need more time for testing.

Will I lose my Google rankings after migrating?

With a properly planned migration: full redirect mapping, migrated metadata, an updated sitemap, the drop in visibility can be kept close to zero. The key is planning this before launch, not after.

What happens to customer data and order history?

Customer data, order history, and products all move over to Shopify. The one exception is passwords, for security reasons they can't be migrated, so customers will need to reset theirs on first login.

Should I choose Shopify or Shopify Plus?

It depends on your order volume and integration needs. Shopify Plus makes sense for high-volume stores, B2B checkout, or multiple enterprise integrations, standard Shopify is plenty for smaller stores.

Will my store go offline during the migration?

No, your existing Magento store keeps running until the new Shopify store is fully tested and ready for the domain switch.

How much does a Magento to Shopify migration cost?

It depends on catalog size, number of integrations, and how much customization is involved. We put together a quote after a short audit of your store.
